CNN confirmed the rumor today. Apparently, Dr. West died of respiratory and cardiac arrest due to an adverse reaction to anesthesia.
The question is why would any doctor perform that type of surgery on a woman Dr. West’s age. By far she was not elderly - she looked quite young for 58. But any doctor knows that a woman of Dr. West’s age is at a much higher risk for surgical complications. Even breast implants at her age would be a very risky procedure.
Dr. West retired from her position as professor and chair of the English Department at Chicago State University in 2004 to become her son’s full-time manager. She often called into radio stations to promote her son’s albums. And she personally booked Kanye’s tv appearances. Kanye, who was in London on Sunday when he received the news, immediately flew to the United States.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
